Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. ASHAO is a registered non-profit organization with tax-exempt status. Donations from US donors may be tax-deductible under IRC Section 501(c)(3). You will receive a receipt for your records immediately after donating. Please consult your tax advisor for specific guidance applicable to your situation.
How much of my donation reaches programs?
87 cents of every dollar donated to ASHAO goes directly to programs and field operations in Afghanistan. 8% covers essential administration, and 5% covers fundraising and communications. These figures are from our independently audited 2024 annual financial statements, which are publicly available on our website.
Can I cancel or change my monthly donation?
Absolutely. You can cancel, pause, or change your monthly donation at any time with no penalties or hassle. Simply email donations@ashao.org.af or log into your donor account. We respect your decision and appreciate every contribution you’ve made.
How does ASHAO operate inside Afghanistan?
ASHAO has been operating in Afghanistan since 2014 with a permanent local Afghan team of over 200 staff across 10 provinces. We maintain registered offices in Kabul and coordinate with all relevant authorities, UN agencies, and cluster coordination bodies to ensure safe, effective program delivery. Our operations are community-led and grounded in 10+ years of local relationships and trust.
Can I designate my gift to a specific program?
Yes — you can designate your gift to Health, Education, WASH, Food Security, Women Empowerment, or leave it unrestricted (Where Most Needed) using the cause selector in our donation form. Unrestricted gifts allow us to deploy funds where the need is most urgent, which often creates the greatest impact.
How will I know my donation is making a difference?
After every donation you will receive a confirmation email. Monthly donors receive regular field updates, impact stories, and our quarterly newsletter. We publish detailed annual reports, evaluation findings, and program data openly on our website. We also operate an open feedback channel for donors who want direct updates on their designated programs.
